This seminar will focus on the "first principles"
of batch and furnace operations for the production of commercial
soda-lime-silica glasses (Container, Tableware, Float, and
Lighting) production. Glass Technology fundamentals will be
reviewed for showing the relationship between raw material
selection, batch formulation and the resultant glass properties
for melting, fabrication and commercial service. Based upon
the attendee backgrounds for each class, commercial furnace
types, refractory applications and design criteria will be
emphasized. You will learn the best practices of a batch and
furnace operation for lowering overall costs and improving
glass quality, as well as troubleshooting
procedures. The seminar also covers current trends in environmental
compliance,
technology advances, and economic issues.
